Mountain Line to Operate Zero-Fare on Thursday, June 19th for National Dump the Pump Day

MISSOULA, MONTANA (June 16, 2014) — This Thursday June 19th Americans in every corner of the nation are pledging to dump the pump and take the bus to work.  In recognition of this national event, Mountain Line will operate zero-fare service.

“Missoulians are encouraged to do their own version of dumping the pump by walking and biking to their favorite bus stop to catch Mountain Line for their daily commute,” said Mountain Line General Manager Michael Tree. “When we enjoy our transportation options we not only save money, but we benefit the whole community by lowering traffic congestion, improving our air quality and creating a more active, healthy community.”

To thank folks who decide to dump the pump on Thursday and take advantage of free rides, Mountain Line is partnering with City Brew to give out free coffee at the Downtown Transfer Center from 7:30-9am.  Participants can also look forward to music and other transportation related activities to get people thinking about the way they commute.

According to the May edition of the Transit Savings Report by the American Public Transit Association (APTA), four straight months of increasing gas prices has pushed the average annual savings for public transit riders to more than $10,000.  APTA releases this monthly report to examine how an individual in a two-person household can save money by taking public transportation and living with one less car.
